THE History of  "DRUM SCHOOL"

Lee founded "Drum School" in 1989 producing his 1st drum instructional video titled "The Ultimate Learning Experience' using multiple drummers of differant styles

I decided on "Drum School"  so the title would portray the video accademically  &  make it obvious to students this is not just another famous drummer selling his name

Gary graduated  Berklee College Of Music & immediately started his career touring with Brian Howe from " Bad Company " and  " Cactus " before joining  " 38 Special "

On Drum School 2  Gary  utilizes all the sticking patterns and hand & foot combinations contained  in this video & shows you how to apply all the exercises to music !

Sean has been recording records & touring "Live" performing all over the world the past 2 decades with " Molly Hatchet"  &  " Pat Travers"  &  now produces records in his own recording studio in Florida "Mix Monsterz"

On Drum School 2 Sean plays a few drum solo's  and breaks them down to a beginner level. He also breaks down his unique drum fills & foot work.

Joe's  talent  & profesionalism made him the "Must Have Drummer" in the great music city of Boston & landed him a gig  with Guitar "Great "  !  " Joe Perry " from  "Aerosmith"

On Drum School volume 1 & 2 Joe not only play's & teaches his personal style & tecniques, he takes you into the studio and discusses the electronic's & the future of drums

Bio : Joe Pet ~ Joe Perry Project

Jackie has toured international with John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Tavares, Bob James, Tom Browne, and Chuck Berry  & he is respected throughout the drum world

On Drum School 1 Jackie plays a few progressive drum solo's, and  breaks down the back beat and how to feel the groove, without losing attack or meter. Now Jackie teaches at Berklee College Of Music

History & Background :               Lee Mangano      "NRG"

Lee Mangano was born in 1959 in Rhode Island.   At age 14 Lee began his formal training  joining

The Regal Crownsmen Drum Corps located in Cranston, RI The education and discipline

requirements of traditional Drum Corps training is quite intense and honors the same principles

and code the US Marine Corps uses  to prepare soldiers  to  “Be The Best You Can Be”

It’s simple, when you join a Drum Corps you face 3 choices:

(1) you meet the level of talent to make the line

(2) you can accept a demotion and play a easier instrument

(3) sit during competition & march in just the parades.

Drum Corps competition’s are held in stadiums around the country to compete for national titles. There are 8 judges on the field deducting 1/10th of a point for every mistake on every count any member is making during the timed performance for both playing and marching. A drum corps could literally lose 1st place by only 1/10th of a point because you made 1 single mistake in your performance, timing, marching and above all execution. In my opinion and through experience, there is “no” better training in the music world that focuses on such dedication to your instrument and ability to perform at the highest levels. It was Lee’s drum corps education & training that prepared and enabled him to be a complete professional and accomplish all the goals he set for himself in music no matter how high the bar.

After years of drum corps training & competition, Lee Mangano studied for 2 years at Brown University with Professor and percussionist Mark Parmet, and in addition private instruction with world renown drummer Joe Pet from “The Joe Perry Project” from Aerosmith, and it was Joe’s influence that really made the greatest impression on Lee.

Ever the organizer, Lee longed to play professionally in his own original band and tour with major acts from around the country. He formed and managed the band “NRG” at age 21 and scheduled live concerts opening for such Music Hall OF Fame” bands as Blue Oyster Cult,  Judas Priest,  Nazareth,  Kix, The Plazmatics and Wendy O'Williams Just to to name a few .

From the 1986 movie soundtrack, one Lee’s band “NRG”’s original songs titled “Instruments Of Destruction” landed on the “Transformers”: The Movie Soundtrack. This was the 1st original animated movie featuring Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, Judd Nelson and Robert Stack as character voices. This exposure increased the popularity of the band during the 90’s, and re-sparked it’s cult like fan base as recent as 2002 when Sony records reformatted the VHS to DVD, surprisingly it sold over 15,000,000 million copies in just a few months once released in America, and it was this interest that inspired producer Steven Spielberg to approach Hasbro and invest in producing the “Transformer” Live Action movie series, which all 3 have made the Top 50 All Time Box office Hits in sales. In August of 2014 they will release Transformers 4 featuring Mark Walberg. “NRG” will be submitting 3 recently recorded songs to be considered onto this upcoming TF4 movie & soundtrack. NRG has history with this Epic Movie series.

                                                                                  Synopsis: DRUM SCHOOL

“ Taking It To The Next Level ”

It is the fantasy of nearly every drummer (or would be drummer) to have the ability and talent to play professionally. To sit behind a drum kit, on stage, in front of hundreds to thousands of cheering, screaming fans that are reacting to your music. I know this dream well from living it and talking to many world renown musicians from many different musical genres I have befriended through my music experience. The competition is brutal to get to the top levels of the industry and it demands that you have complete command of your instrument and the dedication to being a professional, no matter the cost or sacrifice, and there will be plenty of both on your venture.

To reach this level, the quality of work, in general, is relative to the availability of the proper tools and materials used in this process. Over 20 years ago, in 1989 when the first drum video’s came out, I realized the video’s available sorely lacked in educational, content and information. It was quite apparent production and sound quality weren’t even in the plans, and education took a backseat to the world known performer showing its audience just how talented they were, far from meeting the definition of being an “Instructional” video.

For these reasons I decided to launch “Drum School” subtitled “The Ultimate Experience” and let my title alone portray the product content as an educational tool. I wrote, directed and produced the 1st video on the market with multi genre instructors, and Drum School’s main focus was on education and every lesson performed in 3 separate levels from beginner stages to advanced. I am proud to say my self produced  5 piece Drum School catalog is 2nd to none and speaks for itself regarding the quality and production, along with the information, content and instructional value.

In today’s world, these music instructional production co's as "myself " ...lol...companies have drastically improved their production and quality, and now there are 100’s of good drum instructional DvD’s available to learn from, making it more competitive to get my program and teachings to be noticed, so  to seperate myself, I am now at 56 yr old dedicating the rest of my life  to reaching out & creating drummers all over the world. If Drum School can reach you, you'll be sure to hear from us !

Your education and the choices you make from the very start of your music experience will be the most important decisions you make, and can be the “Keys to Your Success”. With that in mind I hope my history and accomplishments will inspire you to travel my road and trust “Drum School” to be apart of your Drum educational experience. Drum School inspires “Teamwork” and together we can slowly build our own Worldwide  "Drum Corps !
